just saw someone say that not being an addict doesnt make you any better than people who are addicts but like……heres the thing. ive been addicted to drugs, and i luckily was able to get over it, but i am fully aware that addiction is a choice. to be able to be made into an addict you have to actually make a conscious choice to ingest a substance that is addictive, and then further make the choice to continue to take that substance knowing that it’s Not good for you and that you are Going to become addicted. alcoholism and drug abuse are literal textbook self-destructive behaviours. no one would ever have a problem considering themselves better than gamblers or people constantly getting hurt from making reckless decisions, so why is this situation any different? becoming addicted to harmful drugs (i.e. literally anything But weed, mushrooms, or lsd) or alcohol is a conscious decision that people make despite knowing it will ruin their bodies and most likely their relationships and financial situations, and if youve had the self-control to either Not do those things or to get over your addiction, you literally Are better than those who havent
